York Community High School’s new Business INCubator Program is recruiting an additional 10 to 15 volunteers with business-oriented skills and expertise to serve roles as experts, mentors, coaches and Board advisors for a select group of students seeking an authentic entrepreneurial education while building a business during this year-long course.
INCubatoredu’s program accelerates learning for students by:
● Blending the Lean Startup process with foundational business topics
● Providing authentic, real-world learning opportunities
● Using hands-on problem solving
● Fostering team teaching opportunities with the classroom teacher, coaches, and mentors
● Providing ongoing professional development for classroom teachers and volunteers
Mentors are paired with one student team for the year. They help facilitate learning by leading students to answer their own questions. Mentors should be good at asking questions and facilitating team dynamics. Mentors meet with their student team for about one hour each week. These meetings can be virtual or face to face. Mentors are matched with teams in September.
Coaches work with students in the classroom to learn course material. Coaches share their personal business expertise through lectures and activities in the INCubator classroom. Coaches work with the classroom teacher to review and revise materials, lessons, and activities planned for the days you are in class. Coach led lessons can be a once per year commitment. Lesson duration is 2-5 days depending on the lesson and are presented during the three class periods of Business INCubator.
The Board of Advisors is a group of volunteer business professionals and entrepreneurs who offer strategic direction to student teams. These volunteers will be in the classroom two times in the school year for the MVP Pitch and Final Pitch.
