CHAMBER SPRING LUNCHEON WILL SALUTE ELMHURST’S FUTURE AND NEW BEGINNINGS

ELMHURST, Ill., April 18, 2011 – The Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry will celebrate the changing leadership in four of the city’s major institutions during the “Salute to the Elmhurst’s Future and New Beginnings” Spring Luncheon at the Diplomat West Banquet Halls, 681 West North Avenue, on Wednesday, April 27, from 11a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The four institutions being spotlighted are the City of Elmhurst, Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205, Elmhurst Public Library and Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare (EMHC)—each of which is experiencing change in leadership positions.
“This year’s event will pay tribute to and recognize the great loss of key institutional leaders, while at the same time welcoming in the new leaders who are responsible for charting the course of each institution’s future,” said John Quigley, Chamber President and CEO since 1999.
Peter Daniels, new President at EHMC, which will open its new half-billion-dollar hospital complex in south Elmhurst on June 25, will deliver the Keynote Address.
Daniels is following in the footsteps of former EMHC President Leo Fronza, who is also retiring as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) this summer after nearly 30 years at the helm and nearly 35 years as an executive healthcare administrator.
In mid-June, Tom Borchert will retire after 27 years as City Manager and 40 years as a public servant. Borchert will be honored at the Diplomat West on Friday, May 13, at a dinner, titled “Making History Through Leadership,” benefiting the Elmhurst Heritage Foundation.
Borchert is only the second City Manager in Elmhurst’s history, following in the footsteps of 30-year office holder Robert Palmer, who took office in 1953 after the Elmhurst Jaycees convinced residents to vote for the adoption of a mayor-manager form of government.
Assistant City Manager Mike Kopp, who is retiring after decades with the Elmhurst Fire Department, including Chief since 2002, is among the candidates to succeed Borchert.
Also retiring after 27 years as Director of the Elmhurst Public Library is Marilyn Boria, whose successor has not yet been named.
Dr. Lynn Krizic will be leaving School District 205 on June 30 after four years as Superintendent. David Pruneau has been hired as the new Superintendent, effective July 1.
Harris Bank is an event sponsor and also will be among numerous exhibitors.
Members also are encouraged to treat their support staff to lunch in recognition of Administrative Professionals Day.
Lunch tickets are $30.00 per member and $50 per non-member, and exhibitor tables are $40.00 for member and $75 per non-member.
Registrations can be made online via the event listing on the Chamber’s website at www.elmhurstchamber.org. The registration deadline is Friday, April 22.
