Gone, But Not Forgotten
Our Chamber family was saddened by the death of Reverend Gary Hodges, Past Senior Pastor at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ and Past President of the Rotary Club of Elmhurst (P.O. Box 147). Memorials can be made to Rotary International’s Literacy Program.
Business After Hours
Elmhurst will participate in a nine-chamber Business After Hours hosted by The Morton Arboretum (4100 Illinois Route 53, Lisle) on Thursday, September 15, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. L’Athar Mediterranean Cuisine (149 North Addison Avenue) and Cafй Amano (105 South York Street, Suite 100) will be among the caterers donating food and beverages.
Chamber Anniversary
Elmhurst Children’s Assistance Foundation (P.O. Box 291) is celebrating its fifth anniversary as a Chamber member in September.
Family Steak Fry
The Chamber’s annual Family Steak Fry will be held at The Hub at Beren’s Park (493 Oaklawn Avenue) on Wednesday, September 21, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The event will include use of the 18-hole miniature golf course, batting cages, sprayground and Lee A. Daniels Pavilion. Cost is $15.00 per adult for a steak dinner (or chicken) and all the fixings from The Silverado Grill (447 Spring Road). Children and grandchildren will eat complimentary hot dogs.
Lucky Strike Re-Named
Lucky Strike (119 North York Street), one of a trio of Chicago-based Spare Time Entertainment Group bowling alley restaurants, has been renamed Seven Ten Lanes as part of a 10th Anniversary promotion. Visit www.sparetimechicago.com for more info.

Phillip’s Flowers and Gifts (526 Spring Road), which ranks among the top one percent of North American florists for its computerized nationwide and worldwide floral delivery, will be honored as 2005 Illinois Retailer of the Year at the Illinois Retail Merchants Association’s (IRMA) 48th Annual Meeting at the Chicago Hilton Hotel on Wednesday, September 21.
Elmhurst College (190 Prospect Avenue) not only raised $3.78 million during Fiscal Year 2005, but got ranked among the Midwest’s Top-10 Comprehensive College in U.S. News & World Report magazine’s “America’s Best Colleges” survey for the third year in a row. No Illinois school in the Comprehensive Colleges category ranked higher than EC, which has been ranked for the past decade.
