On Saturday, April 28th at 7:00 p.m. Jazz returns to Bethel United Church of Christ’s Music at Bethel concert series with a crowd-pleasing performance by the Planet Flippo Quartet. Under the leadership of Dr. Dave Flippo, the quartet will present “Jazz for the Generations” – a diverse concert experience that blends standard jazz repertoire from the early 20th century to jazz arrangements of contemporary popular classics from the 60s and 70s.
Since 1992, the ensemble has performed original compositions by pianist, vocalist and composer Dave Flippo, as well as new arrangements of contemporary gems by Joni Mitchell, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, Brian Wilson, Lennon/McCartney and Amy Winehouse. The concert will conclude with an exciting arrangement of the Theme from Spiderman, by Paul Webster and Robert Harris.
Band members include Dave Flippo, piano and vocals; Donn De Santo, bass; Dan Hesler, saxophone; and Rick Vitek, drums.
In 2016, Planet Flippo was selected for the Jukebox Jury Award that took place at the Jazz Connects Conference, sponsored by JazzTimes Magazine. The winning track was “If 6 Was 9,” a tune composed by Jimi Hendrix and arranged by Dave Flippo.
A wine reception will follow the concert. Bethel United Church of Christ is located at 315 East St. Charles Road in Elmhurst.
