Kids ages 15 and under are invited to experience the thrill of catching a fish at “Trout Fishing for Kids,” 8 a.m. ‒ noon Saturday, March 28 at the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County’s Wood Dale Grove in Wood Dale.
Kids get a great opportunity to fish 9-acre Grove Lake after it’s stocked with rainbow trout before the official spring trout fishing season opens, giving them a better chance of catching a fish. Adults are invited to join their children for this family event but may not fish themselves. The event is free and registration is not required. The entrance to Wood Dale Grove Forest Preserve is on Wood Dale Road 0.5 mile north of Lake Street. For more information, call (630) 933-7668.
“What better way to get kids excited about nature than by giving them a special chance to catch a fish?” asked Commissioner Marsha Murphy, District 1.
Staff and volunteers will be on hand to offer fishing tips, loaner poles and free bait while it lasts. In Illinois, anglers 15 and under do not need a fishing license.
The regular spring trout-fishing season for all anglers opens April 4 at 6 a.m. at three forest preserve lakes: Grove Lake at Wood Dale Grove, Pickerel Lake at Pratt’s Wayne Woods in Wayne and Silver Lake at Blackwell in Warrenville. With the exception of “Trout Fishing for Kids” at Grove Lake, all three lakes will be closed to all fishing from March 15 through April 4.
The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County has been connecting people to nature for 100 years.
