FORMER ELMHURST CHAMBER INTERN
APPOINTED TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS
ELMHURST, Ill., (July 16, 2003) – Joseph R. Skibbie, Marketing Coordinator at Community Bank of Elmhurst since 2000, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry. He fills a vacancy in a three-year term that expires in November of 2004.
Prior to joining Community Bank, Skibbie worked as a student intern at the Chamber while attending Elmhurst College, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing (philosophy minor). He also lettered for the football Bluejays as a defensive lineman. In addition, he has attended non-degree classes at the College of DuPage.
“To the best of my knowledge, Joe is the first student intern at the Chamber to become a Director,” said Chamber President John Quigley. “Joe already was an intern when I became Chamber President in 1999, and he left us prior to graduation when the door of opportunity at Community Bank opened up for him.”
His appointment to Director was made by Chairman of the Board Cathy Bajkowski, Financial Professional at The MONY Group, and approved at the Board meeting in the bank’s second-floor Community Room on July 9.
Skibbie was among nine Board candidates in last fall’s election of seven Directors and has served on Board’s Marketing Committee for nearly one year.
Active in the Elmhurst Community, Skibbie also serves as the Financial Vice President for the Elmhurst Jaycees, the Junior Chamber of Commerce, and is a member of the Elmhurst City Centre’s “Cool Kiddie Cars” Committee.
Established in 1918, the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry is a voluntary organization of business and professional men and women who have joined together to promote the civic and commercial progress of the community.
The Chamber also serves the needs of its members through services, programs and events that provide opportunities for networking and referral, business education, development and promotion, governmental representation and community involvement.
