The Dr. Robert Stanger Young Artist Concerto Audition for the year 2015-16 will be conducted by the Elmhurst Symphony Association in cooperation with the Elmhurst Kiwanis Club and the former Auxiliary of the Elmhurst Symphony Association, through its Eunice B. Sidener Scholarship, on February 13, 2016, at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 149 W. Brush Hill Rd. in Elmhurst. The yearly Stanger Audition provides an opportunity for outstanding high school orchestral instrumentalists and pianists to grow as musicians, gain recognition for their efforts preparing for the Audition, and compete for the opportunity to perform a concerto movement with the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra. The winner of this event will appear as a soloist with the ESO during its 2016-17 subscription season and will also receive a monetary award of $400. Three runners-up receive monetary awards and are invited to perform for local community groups.
Last season’s Stanger Audition winner, violinist Joshua Brown, performed with the ESO at its opening concert of the season in October. “My experience during both the competition and the performance with the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra was highly rewarding and enjoyable,” said Brown. “I am extremely grateful for competitions like the Stanger Concerto Audition that provide young musicians like me with the opportunity to perform with a first-class conductor and orchestra.”
Applications for the Stanger Audition must be postmarked by December 4, 2015; the application fee is $40. Each entrant will be given 10 minutes to perform a selection, and performances will be evaluated by three judges who will provide written comments and suggestions.
