Elmhurst Artists’ Guild Stages Summer Members Show

The Elmhurst Artists’ Guild will host the annual Summer Members Show, featuring a variety of original artwork by the members of the Elmhurst Artists’ Guild (“EAG”), from June 28 through July 29.  The public is encouraged to attend the reception on Friday, July 1, from 7 to 9 p.m.

“Attending the reception and listening to the judge describe the critical elements of the award-winning artworks is an entertaining way to learn about contemporary art,” stated Wes Baker, EAG President.

Artworks will be judged and awards bestowed by Beth Shadur, an internationally recognized artist who has exhibited at multiple museums including the Art Institute of Chicago, most recently curated the traveling exhibition, “Collaborative Vision: The Poetic Dialogue Project,” and currently teaches at Carthage College, Kenosha, Wis.

The Summer Members Show presents the contemporary artwork of about 50 emerging and established predominantly west suburban Chicago area artists.  Their breadth of styles and medium encompasses dramatically different artworks, such as Wes Baker’s strikingly peaceful, “In Between – Ormond Beach,” capturing the blue solitude of the last light of day on a deserted beach, and Randal Stringer’s abstract, textured mixed media, “Tsunami,” inspired by the recent tsunami in Japan. Other artists showcase their talents with watercolor, ceramics, oil, acrylic and collage works including landscapes, portraits and abstract works, among other styles.

Most artworks in the exhibit are available for purchase, along with a sampling of high quality Giclee prints. Wes Baker commented, “We offer affordable great art that is the gift that keeps on giving. Artwork purchases bring daily delight to the new owner, while supporting the artist, the EAG, and the Elmhurst Art Museum.”

The Elmhurst Artists’ Guild Gallery is located in the Elmhurst Art Museum, 150 Cottage Hill Ave., Elmhurst, and is open during regular museum hours 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Friday.
