Dear Members:

You are receiving my monthly President’s Message a day early as there are a couple of coming events—Thursday’s Tree Lighting in Wilder Park and Saturday’s Chicago Blackhawks Roadshow Party among them—that you might want to attend.

Got It! in Elmhurst

As you prepare for the final weeks of holiday shopping and celebrating, please keep in mind the Chamber’s Got It! in Elmhurst campaign message and try your best to shop local, dine local and entertain local.

Think out of the box when Christmas shopping this month and purchase gift certificates or gift cards for movie tickets, dining out, salon services, household products, auto care and the like.  Who among us wouldn’t enjoy the gift of a spa day, fine dining at our favorite restaurant and even car wash coupons?

For the past two months, we have championed the importance of Shop Elmhurst First to residents and businesses alike, using via a variety of print and web advertising, event marketing, promotional signage and product giveaways—including our Small Business Saturday full-page display ad on the front cover of the November 25 Elmhurst Press.

Our mixture of display ads touting Got It! in Elmhurst and the Top 10 Reasons to Shop and Dine in Elmhurst in newspapers, coupon magazines and special event programs have caught the attention of residents, and our web ads on ElmhurstPatch.com’s home, business and shopping pages generated five times the average click on rate in October.

Next up, look for our Got It! in Elmhurst post-it note on the front cover of this Friday’s (December 2) Elmhurst Press, as done the first weeks of October and November.

The City and our Chamber are discussing options for continuing the Got It! in Elmhurst campaign beyond its Fourth Quarter of 2011 timeline, including development of smart phone apps for shopping, dining and entertainment.

After handing out 150 Got It! in Elmhurst tote bags to residents at Elmhurst City Centre’s Tree Lighting on November 25, we expect the distribute the last few hundred of 2,500 eco-friendly promotional totes as the presenting sponsor of the Elmhurst Park District’s annual Tree Lighting in Wilder Park tonight at 6:30 p.m.

On the Political Front

The Republication primary race for the newly-remapped Illinois Senate 24th District pitting former Elmhurst Alderman Chris Nybo from the Illinois House of Representative’s 41st District versus incumbent State Senator Kirk Dillard has begun in earnest with petitions filed last Monday (November 28).

Elmhurst Mayor Pete DiCianni has filed to run for the DuPage County Board in District 2 being vacated by Elmhurst resident Jeff Redick, who Illinois Governor Pat Quinn recently appointed to the Illinois Tollway Board of Directors.
