Crain’s Chicago Business magazine has named Mary Lou Mastro, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Edward-Elmhurst Health, among its 2019 Notable Women Executives Over 50.
As E-EH’s CEO , Mastro heads a health system that operates three hospitals, including Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, and generates $1.5 billion in revenue. Over the past 18 months, Mastro has led an initiative that addresses inconveniences cited by patients such as access, waiting, scheduling and transitions of care. The health system is streamlining processes and using technology to ensure patient engagement and loyalty.
From 2002 to 2013, Mastro was president of Linden Oaks at Edward, now Linden Oaks Behavioral Health. There she launched Mental Health First Aid, a program that teaches people how to identify and help individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.
Mastro joined Edward Hospital in 1988 as director of cardiovascular services.
Mastro also serves on several boards, including the Illinois Hospital Association and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago.
