Diamonds To Receive Elmhurst Jaycees DSA
ELMHURST, Ill., March 23, 2011– The Elmhurst Jaycees are pleased to announce Kevin and Sarah Diamond as the recipients of the 60th Distinguished Service Award (DSA). As former and very active Elmhurst Jaycees, they truly fit the bill of the Elmhurst Jaycee creed with their selfless works and belief that “service to humanity is the best work of life.”
Julie Miller Sheehan, co-chair of the DSA banquet, is especially proud of the committee’s selection this year. “Kevin invited me to my first Jaycee meeting and I immediately joined the chapter. He has been a very reliable Jaycee mentor ever since. The Diamonds are role models and have become close personal friends as well.”
Kevin is a “rooster” of the Jaycees (retired member) and Sarah is a former member herself.
Kevin helped to resurrect the Jaycees, including the DSA banquet, and has served as Chairman of the 4th of July parade, Treasurer, President and all around volunteer of all Jaycee activities.
Sarah was also actively involved in the Jaycees, constantly volunteering her time to Jaycee events.
Kevin is employed as a Senior Vice President and Treasurer of The Warranty Group and Sarah is a stay-at-home mother to their three daughters and a volunteer with many Elmhurst organizations.
Kevin has been a staunch supporter of the Elmhurst Children’s Assistance Foundation (ECAF) since 2004, including serving as Treasurer from 2007 through 2009 and chairman of the golf outing. He also led the Elmhurst School District 205 referendum in 2006 and in July 2009 was appointed by Elmhurst Mayor Pete DiCianni to co-chair the City of Elmhurst Financial Task Force.
Sarah currently serves on the boards of the Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Foundation and the Elmhurst YMCA. Sarah has chaired and co-chaired the YMCA Dinner Dance committee since 2003, chaired and co-chaired the Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Chef Fest for 2010 and 2011, has been an active member of P.E.O. since 1988 and served on the Elmhurst District 205 Foundation Board from 2005 to 2011.
Steve Weatherford, President of ECAF, wrote in his nomination letter, “Kevin and Sarah are a dynamic duo of community service volunteers in Elmhurst.”
In his supporting letter of recommendation, former Illinois House of Representatives Speaker Lee Daniels and friend of the Diamond’s concurred, “Kevin and Sarah have the passion and belief to follow their commitments…[I] support the nomination of the Elmhurst Team, Kevin and Sarah Diamond.”
Other supporting letters agreed, as Elmhurst Mayor Pete DiCianni stated, “Elmhurst is truly a better place for Kevin and Sarah’s consistent selfless efforts on behalf of the community.” The Diamonds agree that it is important to give back to their community.
Other supporting letters were written by Val Stewart, former Director of Community Relations for Elmhurst School District 205; Maureen McCarthy, Executive Director of the Elmhurst YMCA; Valerie Cahill, President of the Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Guild; and David Cooke, former Elmhurst Jaycees President.
