ELMHURST CHAMBER HONORS MILLER

WITH GOLF OUTING GOOD WORKS AWARD

ELMHURST, Ill., July 14, 2010—Julie Miller of Elmhurst was honored as the 2010 recipient of the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s Good Works Award presented at the Chamber’s 62nd Annual Golf Outing held at Maple Meadows Golf Club in Wood Dale on July 9.

The 11th Good Works Award recipient, Miller has been involved with the Chamber for the past decade, starting in 2000 when she worked as a JOBPATH Program student intern during her senior year at Elmhurst College.  That spring, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and Urban Studies.

The award was given to Miller “for her contributions to the betterment of the Chamber and Elmhurst business community through her selfless service as a member of the Elmhurst Jaycees and Chair of the Jaycees’ Distinguished Service Award (DSA) Dinner for numerous years, her active roles on the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Board of Directors, Ways and Means Committee, and Elmfest Steering Committee, her initial Chamber involvement while working as an Elmhurst College JOBPATH student intern, and her decade of personal and business support of the Chamber Golf Outing.”

“Julie is one of those special individuals who throws her heart and soul into whatever endeavor she chooses,” stated John Quigley, Chamber President and CEO since 1999, “and our Chamber is among the fortunate benefactors of her good works.”

Miller has worked as Office Manager and Paralegal at the IRS law firm of Patrick T. Sheehan & Associates Attorneys at Law since 2000.  Her varied roles at the law firm include Staff Supervisor, Building Manager, Human Resources Administrator, Advertising/Marketing Director and Accounts Payable/Receivable Manager.

The third former intern in a decade to be elected to Chamber’s Board of Directors, Miller is a first-term Director and third-year member of the Board’s Ways and Means Committee.  She has served on the Golf Outing and Steak Fry Subcommittees for several years, and also served on the now-defunct Elmfest Steering Committee (2001-08).

A member of the Elmhurst Jaycees (chartered as the Junior Chamber of Commerce) since 2001, Miller has served as the organization’s Membership Vice President and Secretary, and is a nine-year member of the Distinguished Service Award (DSA) Committee, including Chairperson.  She is also a member of the Elmhurst Newcomers & Neighbors Club, a not-for-profit membership club for residents.

Presented annually at the Chamber Golf Outing since 2000, the Good Works Award honors the memory of the late Chamber President, A.J. “Toche” Terrones, who led the Chamber for nearly 10 years until his death the night before the 1999 Golf Outing.

“We present this award to people who have supported our Golf Outing in particular and the Chamber as a whole, and contributed to the Elmhurst business community at large,” Quigley stated.

Past recipients include longtime Chamber volunteer Ralph Pechanio (2009), retired banker Frank Vitelli (2008), building contractor Paul DeMichele (2007), Chamber Retention Coordinator Jerry Sletten (2006), the mortgage team of Frank Catalano Jr. and Debra Klosterman (2005), retired business executive and Membership Vice President Howard Schreiber (2004), retired banker John Wartinbee (2003), then Elmhurst Mayor Thomas D. Marcucci (2002), entrepreneur Betsy Hanisch (2001) and Tom Coffey (2000) of Electronic Specialty Design.

Established in 1918, the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry is a voluntary organization of business and professional men and women who have joined together to promote the civic and commercial progress of the community.

The Chamber also serves the needs of its members through services, programs and events that provide opportunities for networking and referral, business education, development and promotion, governmental representation and community involvement.
