Community Directory
The Chamber will begin work this month on the 2002 Elmhurst Community Directory, which will be printed by Liberty Suburban Chicago Newspapers (709Enterprise Drive, Oak Brook) for distribution in late April.  Members receive two FREE listings (alphabetically and by category/subcategory), and advertising discounts up to 50 percent.  For more information, contact the Chamber office or call Liberty’s Gloria Cassata at 368-8854.

Newsmakers
Anderson’s Bookshop, with stores in Elmhurst (176 North York Street), Naperville and Downers Grove, was named the Illinois Family Business of the Year for 2001 by the Loyola Family Business Center.  The Anderson family’s sixth-generation business started out as a drugstore in Naperville in 1875.

The Business and Professional Institute e-Business Information Center at the College of DuPage (425 Fawell Boulevard, Glen Ellyn) will conduct internet-related workshops titled “Doing Business Online (on a Shoestring Budget)” on Thursday, January 24, from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. and “Search Engine Optimization and Management” on Tuesday, January 28, from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m., both in Building K, Room 163.  The cost for each is $19.00 per person.  Call 942-4607 for further information.

Community Bank of Elmhurst (330 West Butterfield Road) at its Board of Directors’ meeting in December approved the promotions of William C. “Bill” Gooch Jr. from President and Chief Executive Officer to Board Vice Chairman and CEO; Richard Reichert from Executive Vice President and Controller to President and Chief Operating Officer; Phyllis Butt, from Branch Manager at Elmhurst City Centre (106 Schiller Street) to Vice President and Branch Manager; Abel Rubio from Booking to Assistant Controller; and David Gaul, from Loan Administrator to Assistant Vice President.

The law firm of Patrick T. Sheehan & Associates, which relocated its offices to 314 North York Street last month, has also added Robert Rush and Mark Hannah to its staff of tax attorneys.

9-11 Update
The Manhattan (N.Y.) Chamber of Commerce, which the Elmhurst Chamber and more than 450 chambers in the United States and Canada joined following the terrorist attacks of September 11, reported giving out $78,000.00 in grants to 81 recipients.  The list of grant awardees is available via the internet at www.manhattancc.org.

Special Events
The Elmhurst Garden Club (P.O. Box 383) and its Evening Horticulture Study Group will host a free lecture titled, “Landscaping,” at Community Bank of Elmhurst, 330 West Butterfield Road, tonight at 7:00 p.m.

WinterFest! returns to The Morton Arboretum (4100 Illinois Route 53, Lisle) over the weekend of January 19 and 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with outdoor events ranging from snowshoes to ice sculptures and from dog sleds to the Ice Age Adventure fantasy trail.  For further information, call the Visitors Center at 719-2465 or the recorded activity hotline at 719-2400.

The Elmhurst Public Library (211 Prospect Avenue) is conducting its first Adult Winter Reading Program from now through February 28.  Those who read four books (or use books-on-cassette or CDs) will receive a special mug.   A book log is available at the Adult Reference Desk.

As part of its 4th Annual Sweetheart Shopping Days from now through February 12, the Spring Road Business Association will conduct a Valentine’s Day-themed prize drawing on Wednesday, February 13.  Drawing tickets must be picked up at participating stores, validated at three other participating stores and turned in to any Association member.  Further information is available via the internet at www.springroad.com.

Elmhurst College (190 Prospect Avenue) will award Niebuhr Medals (its highest honor) to Millard and Linda Fuller, Founders of Habitat for Humanity, during its annual Founders Day Convocation in Hammerschmidt Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, February 12, at 11:30 a.m.
