ACCESSIBLE VIA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WEBSITE
ELMHURST, Ill., October 2, 2002 – Community information published annually by in the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s Elmhurst Community Directory is now accessible via the internet at www.elmhurstchamber.org.
“This is a perfect example of the Chamber’s on-going commitments to strengthen the relationship between the business and residential communities, create symmetry between our products and services, and integrate technology to better meet the needs of our members and their customers,” stated Chamber President John Quigley.
Listings now available via the “Community Info” home page button include Arts and Culture, Chamber, Economic Development and Business Associations, Education and Schools, Emergency Services, Government: Federal, State, County, Township and City, Health Care and Hospitals, History of Elmhurst, Library Services, Parks and Recreation, Postal Services and Voter Information, Statistics, Tourism, Transportation and Utilities, Social Services and Chamber Members A to Z.
Those community information listings also feature website hyperlinks for most of the agencies, organizations, groups and clubs listed.
Information on the Chamber’s 570 members has been internet accessible via the “Membership Database” home page button for the past two years. Member information can be searched by business name or business category/subcategory—similar to their Community Directory listings. Member searches also can be made by first or last name of their contact person.
Since www.elmhurstchamber.org went online in February of 2000, the Chamber has invested nearly $10,000 in website development—without passing any of those costs onto its members.
The initial home page included hot buttons for Home, Organization, Mission, Events and Membership Database. Hot buttons for News & Notes, Career Connector and Elmhurst Links were added a year later.
An Elmfest website (www.elmfest.org) was developed prior to the 2001 festival, with a logo hyperlink added to the Chamber home page.
“What the Chamber has accomplished in website development in less than three years and on a limited budget is thanks mostly to the hard work of a handful of dedicated members and their businesses,” said Quigley.
The Chamber’s web designer and host is Synergistic Networks, Inc. (180 West Park Avenue, Suite 210), which has also sponsored the Elmfest site the past two years. Owner Greg Jiede and Joe Major represent SynNet on the Chamber account.
Todd Benson, Owner of Castco Communications (391 River Glen), and Rich Craig, Owner of R.M.C. Technical Services, Inc. (188 Industrial Drive, Suite 38), serve as the Chamber’s technology consultants.
Established in 1918, the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry is a voluntary organization of business and professional men and women who have joined together for the purpose of promoting the civic and commercial progress of the community.
The Chamber also serves the needs of its members through services, programs and events that provide opportunities for networking and referral, business education, development and promotion, governmental representation and community involvement.
