Alcozer Family Fund
A trust fund has been established at Community Bank of Elmhurst (330 West Butterfield Road) to aid the Jesse Alcozer Family, whose Elmhurst rental home burned down in a fire ignited by a shrine candle for Jesse’s son, Christopher, a 21-year-old Army infantryman killed in action November 19 in Mosul, Iraq.  Jesse is a disabled Marine wounded seven times while serving in Vietnam.

Annual Meeting/Silent Auction
The Chamber will hold its Annual Meeting/Silent Auction with a “Taste of Elmhurst” and Elmhurst Jaycees-sponsored Casino Night in the Waterford Banquet Room at the Quality Inn (933 South Riverside Drive) on Wednesday, January 25, 2006, starting at 5:30 p.m. with the 30-minute Annual Meeting, where the A.J. “Toche” Terrones Business of the Year, Ambassador of the Year and Chairman’s Award for 2005 will be presented.  The Silent Auction, “Taste of Elmhurst” and Jaycees Casino will run from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.  Casino proceeds benefit the Elmhurst Fire Department Fire Engine Restoration Fund.  Ticket cost is $10.00 per person; bar is cash.

Business After Hours
Seven Ten Lanes (119 North York Street) will host the Chamber’s monthly Business After Hours on Tuesday, January 31, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Business Energy Webcast
The Illinois Small Business Smart Energy Design Assistance Center—in partnership with the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity (DCEO), University of Illinois-Champaign’s School of Agriculture and the Geothermal Heat Pump Consortium—will promote energy efficiency for small businesses in Illinois and Missouri via its Small Business $mart Energy (SB$E) Webcast on Wednesday, January 18, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  For more info or to register as a viewer, visit http://webcast.sedac.org.

Downtown Plan Presentation
The League of Women Voters of Elmhurst is sponsoring a program on the proposed 2006 Elmhurst Downtown Plan at the Elmhurst Public Library (125 Prospect Avenue) on Thursday, January 19, at 7:30 p.m.  Susan Rose, Third Ward Alderman and Chair of the Elmhurst City Council’s Development, Planning and Zoning Committee, and Darrell Whistler, Chair of the city’s Development, Planning and Zoning Commission, are the presenters.  For more info, call Jan Dorner at 832-8089 or visit www.lwvelmhurst.org.

Hong Kong Is King

Newsmakers
Elmhurst College (190 Prospect Avenue) presented checks for $10,000.00 in Asian tsunami disaster relief for child psychological and social care, and $6,843.00 for Hurricane Katrina disaster relief, raised through various fundraising endeavors.  The College is now raising relief funds for sister United Church of Christ institution Dillard University in New Orleans.

Community Bank of Elmhurst named Nancy Brook, Vice President and Administrative Assistant to CEO and Chairman of the Board William C. Gooch Jr., as Assistant Secretary to the Board of Directors and promoted John Seifried, Loan Adminstrator since 2002 and Elmhurst College graduate, to Loan Officer.  Brook, who also serves as Secretary of the Spring Road Business Association, has been with CBE since 1993 following 16 years at York State Bank.

The Elmhurst Park District (225 Prospect Avenue) has hired Sonja Smith, formerly Assistant Manager and Interim General Manager at Fit ‘N’ Fresh Cafй in Chicago, as the new Supervisor of Hospitality and Concessions at the Courts Cafй of Court Plus, a Centre for Health, Sports and Fitness (186 South West Avenue).

The newly-founded Center for the Health Professions at Elmhurst College, directed by Dr. Frank Mittermeyer, is designed as a proactively response to the national shortage in health care workers through innovative programs and teamwork between different disciplines ranging from nursing to physical therapy and from pre-medicine to exercise science.

“Throw Away Your New Year’s Resolutions,” a goal-setting, results-getting presentation to the DuPage Executive Network by Executive Coach Elene Cafasso of Enerpace, Inc. “State of the City” Mayoral Address
Elmhurst Mayor Thomas D. Marcucci will deliver the annual “State of the City” Mayoral Address at the Chamber’s January Membership Breakfast hosted by co-sponsor Community Bank of Elmhurst on Tuesday, January 17, 2006, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.  Marcucci’s Address will be videotaped by “Elmhurst Our Kind of Town” for airing on Channel 6 of Comcast in February.  The event is free to Chamber members, but seating is limited to 150.

Voter Registration
The League of Women Voters of Elmhurst will conduct voter registration drives at the Elmhurst Public Library on from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Sundays, January 29 and February 19, and from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesdays, February 8 and 20.  Two forms of identification, one with a current address, are needed.  For more info, call Jan Dorner at 832-8089 or visit www.lwvelmhurst.org.
