CITY, ELMHURST CHAMBER TO FETE
BUSINESS BEAUTIFICATION LEADERS
ELMHURST, Ill., September 20, 2006 – Nine businesses, not-for-profits and individual will receive 2005-06 Beautification Awards from the City of Elmhurst’s Economic Development Office and Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry next week during a breakfast ceremony at award-winning Elmhurst College.
The Bi-Annual Beautification Recognition Breakfast will be held in the Prospect Room at Elmhurst College’s Frick Center, 190 Prospect Avenue, on Wednesday, September 27, starting at 7:30 a.m.

Joining Elmhurst College as 2005-06 Beautification Award winners will be Architects’ Studio-Real Capital (275 North York Street, Suite 202), Chief Enterprises (545 West Lake Street), CHOW (116 West Park Avenue), Dick Pond Athletics (124 North York Street), Elmhurst Park District’s Helmut Berens Park (493 Oaklawn Avenue), Seven-Ten Lanes (119 North York Street), Tutto Bene (111 North Addison Avenue) and Classic Cinemas’ Willis and Shirley Johnson.
“Our honorees are to be congratulated for making a financial investment that not only best serves their needs and interests, but also provides an aesthetic enhancement to their districts in particular and the community at large,” said Chamber President and CEO John Quigley, who will serve as the program’s Master of Ceremonies.
The program will be taped by “Elmhurst Our Kind of Town” for broadcast on Channel 6 of Comcastin October.
Willis and Shirley Johnson, Owners of Downers Grove-based Classic Cinemas, are being recognized for their most-recent expansion project at the York Theatre in downtown Elmhurst and faзade improvements to their adjacent retail properties.
Also located in Elmhurst City Centre, Architect’s Studio-Real Capital is getting an award for its new building design, CHOW and Tutto Bene are being honored for their interior motif and ambiance, Dick Pond Athletics is being recognized for its eye-catching window displays, and award-winner Seven Ten Lanes transformed a dated building that housed the long-defunct Grants Department Store with its faзade and interior renovation.
Chief Enterprises is being honored for its interior renovation reinvestment after moving to its new location in Elmhurst.
For their investment in public enhancement, the Alumni Fountain at Elmhurst College and Elmhurst Park District’s Berens Park—which include The HUB of new baseball/softball diamonds, soccer/football fields, batting cages, 18-hole miniature golf course, sprayground and Lee A. Daniels Pavilion—are receiving awards.
Established in 2004, the Economic Development Office is part of the city’s Department of Planning, Zoning and Economic Development.
The mission of Economic Development is to work effectively to retain, expand, promote and attract business and industry within the city limits so as to increase the value of commerce, thus creating employment opportunities and increasing the city’s tax base.
Established in 1918, the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry is a voluntary organization of business and professional men and women who have joined together to promote the civic and commercial progress of the community.
The Chamber also serves the needs of its members through services, programs and events that provide opportunities for networking and referral, business education, development and promotion, governmental representation and community involvement.
