Over 100 people helped raise awareness of the neuromuscular disease myasthenia gravis on Sunday, June 7, in spite of Mother Nature’s downpour.  With unwavering spirits, the crowd supported loved ones who battle this muscle-weakening autoimmune condition.  The event raised $20,000 to support the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of Illinois, twice as much as was raised at last year’s event. “I’m so thankful,” noted MGF of Illinois executive director Joan Wincentsen. “This means we can help MG patients with their medical costs, and we can continue to provide support, education, and research funding.”

MGF of Illinois gratefully acknowledges support from local sponsors including Tim Gurrie’s Pampered Chef, Elijah’s Specialty Coffee & Tea, Tree of Life Chiropractic Center, Whole Foods, Patriot Boxing, Classic Cinemas, and Pazzi di Pizza.

Myasthenia gravis causes fluctuating weakness and can affect muscles that control eye movements, eyelids, chewing, swallowing, breathing, coughing and facial expression, as well as the arms and legs.

MGF of Illinois has been providing patient support and education and funding research for over 40 years.  If you have questions about myasthenia gravis, call MGF of Illinois at 1-800-888-6208.
