On May 14 Forest Preserve District of DuPage County Commissioner Jeff Redick, District 2, and Elmhurst Mayor Steve Morley took the District’s “Centennial Golf Challenge” to a new level by completing the 100-hole quest at one course in a single day.
Redick and Morley teed off at the Forest Preserve District’s Green Meadows Golf Course in Westmont at 5:13 a.m. Thursday with drinking water, sunscreen, extra golf balls and a stack of receipts for greens fees in hand. They putted on their 100th hole less than 12 hours later at 4:37 p.m.
“Golf is a great way to spend time in our beautiful forest preserves,” said Redick. “The only thing better than spending the day playing a round of golf at a DuPage Forest Preserve course is spending a day playing more than 11 rounds at a DuPage Forest Preserve course.”
Golfers can sign up for the “Centennial Golf Challenge,” which is part of the District’s 100th anniversary celebration, at dupagegolf.com. Any golfer who then pays for and plays a combined 100 holes by July 31 at the District’s three courses — Green Meadows, Oak Meadows in Addison or Maple Meadows in Wood Dale — will receive a certificate for free greens fees for either one 18-hole round or two 9-hole rounds. Golfers should make sure to pay for rounds under their registered names and keep their receipts as proof-of-purchase. In early August the District will mail certificates to golfers who complete the challenge.
“Playing all 100 holes in one day like ironmen Commissioner Redick and Mayor Morley may give you some well-deserved bragging rights, but it’s not required to earn the free certificate,” says Ed Stevenson, the District’s director of Business Enterprises. “The challenge is intended to showcase the array of styles and natural habitats — everything from oak woodlands to prairie — that our golf preserves offer while giving golfers an opportunity to earn a free round.”
The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County has been connecting people to nature for 100 years.
