ELMHURST CHAMBER HONORS CATALANOS
WITH GOLF OUTING GOOD WORKS AWARD

ELMHURST, Ill., July 27, 2005 – The husband-wife mortgage team of Frank Catalano Jr. and Debra Klosterman Catalano were honored as the 2005 recipients of the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s Good Works Award presented at the inaugural joint Chamber and Elmhurst Family YMCA Golf Outing, BizKids Best Ball Scramble, held at White Pines Golf Club in Bensenville on July 26.

The Catalanos are Partners in the Catalano Mortgage Team of American Home Mortgage (112 South York Street), the first of the BizKids Best Ball Scramble’s two Major Event Sponsors, along with Suburban Bank & Trust.

The award was given “for their countless contributions to the betterment of the Chamber and Elmhurst business community through years of selfless service on the Board of Directors and as Ambassadors, their commitment to children through the Elmhurst Family YMCA, Elmhurst Children’s Assistance Foundation (ECAF) and Northeast DuPage Special Recreation Association (NESDRA), their service to community through the Kiwanis and Rotary clubs of Elmhurst, and their personal support of the ‘Tee Off for Toche’ Golf Outing and now the BizKids Best Ball Scramble.”

Presented annually at the Chamber Golf Outing since 2000, the Good Works Award is named in memory of late Chamber President A.J. “Toche” Terrones, who led the Chamber for nearly 10 years until his death the night before the 1999 Golf Outing.  The award plaque was donated by B.E.A.R. Awards (137 Richard Avenue).

“When the Chamber needed to take its Golf Outing to a higher level after Toche’s death, Frank and Debra stepped up as the first sponsor to commit to the new Corporate level,” stated Chamber President John Quigley.  “And, when the Chamber and YMCA agreed to combine Golf Outings, Frank and Debra were first to climb on board again.”

Past recipients include retired business executive and Chamber Membership Vice President Howard Schreiber (2004), retired banker John Wartinbee (2003), Elmhurst Mayor Thomas D. Marcucci (2002), entrepreneur Betsy Hanisch (2001) and Tom Coffey (2000) of Electronic Specialty Design.

“Typically, this award is given to an individual who has supported our Golf Outing in particular and the Chamber as a whole, and contributed to the Elmhurst business community at large,” Quigley stated, “but we couldn’t possibly recognize Frank without Debra or Debra without Frank.  They’re a team in every sense of the word.”

Catalano served two three-year terms on the Chamber’s Board of Directors and was the Board Chairman in 1999-2000 (10 years after his father’s Chairmanship)—the same year that former fellow Director Quigley was hired as President.

Catalano is the President of the Elmhurst Historical Commission and a member of the Elmhurst Memorial Hospital’s Board of Governors.  He is also the Past President of the Kiwanis Club of Elmhurst, ECAF and Elmhurst Jaycees, and ex-member of the Board of Directors of the now-defunct Elmhurst Economic Development Corporation (EEDC).

Klosterman is a first-term Chamber Director and member of the Board’s Ways and Means Committee, and third-year Chamber Ambassador.

Klosterman has served on Board of Directors for Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare, Elmhurst YMCA and Rotary Club of Elmhurst, and chaired numerous fundraising and special event committees.

The Catalanos also have been the landlords for the Chamber Office at 113 Adell Place since 2000.

Established in 1918, the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry is a voluntary organization of business and professional men and women who have joined together to promote the civic and commercial progress of the community.

The Chamber also serves the needs of its members through services, programs and events that provide opportunities for networking and referral, business education, development and promotion, governmental representation and community involvement.
